She wasn’t sure where she was or what was going on, but she was pretty sure she’d been a person at some point in the past.
Not now of course, no, now she was property, owned and operated by the La-Tex company now.
So she stood there, perfectly still, waiting for something to happen. Eventually it did and two men walked into the room where she stood.
“I think this is the model you were inquiring about…” the first man in an expensive business suit said, waiving his hand towards her.
The second man smiled and nodded, “Absolutely!”
“Good, good. Now, as you know she was deemed property three months ago and we purchased her at the government auction. She’s undergone extensive… revisions since then.”
“Can she still sing?” the second man asked.
Something clicked in the back of her head… yes! Yes, she’d been a singer, a famous singer!
“Yes, though we haven’t programmed in her back catalogue again yet.”
“Well, that’s ok, I wasn’t a big fan of her music anyway.”
“Of course, she wasn’t to everyone’s taste.” the man in the suit replied with a shrug.
“So when can I buy her?” the second man asked.
“Well we still have some more programming to do, but that should only be a few more weeks. I’m giving you this preview as you’re a valued customer, but you’ll still have to bid on her. She’s too valuable to just sell outright. You understand of course.”
The second man frowned and nodded, “Yeah, I get it. I’ve got a perfect spot for her in my brothel though, a real tribute bedroom for her.”
“I’m sure it will be very tastefully done.” the suit replied.
“Fuck tasteful, it’s tacky as hell, but that’s the point.” the second man laughed and slapped the first on the back, then they both walked out, leaving her alone once more.
She tried to think of a song, any song, but none came to mind. Eventually she stopped trying and just let her mind empty out once more.
A smile came to her lips as she blankly stood there, wondering only when they’d program in her songs and if the second man would win her auction or if it would be someone else.
