Linda and Danielle struck a pose and smiled for the camera as the man that was escorting them snapped yet another photo.
There was something terribly wrong with both of them, but Linda was having a hard time figuring out what had happened.
She could clearly remember being at he environmental protest three weeks ago, holding up her sign, shouting at the gleaming glass skyscraper that held the corporate headquarters of the polluter they were protesting that day.
Danielle was right there beside her, both of them dressed in simple jeans and t-shirts with their organizations slogan on it. It hadn’t mattered that between the two of them their families probably owned 20% of the company they were protesting against… they couldn’t do anything about that.
Instead they fought even harder to save the planet from the entitled people that cared more about the latest fashion and their private jets.
Both of them had been arrested that day for disturbing the peace and a few other minor infractions, she’d been so happy when they’d slapped the cuffs on her and taken her away… she was sure that because of her name that they’d get all kinds of publicity from it.
But then… then things got blurry. She could remember arriving at the station a put in a holding cell… but not getting booked, or a mug shot taken, or finger printed. Which seemed strange.
Then they’d been escorted to a transport of some kind… for some reason she thought it wasn’t a police paddy wagon, but she couldn’t quite remember what it looked like. Then… nothing.
At least until three days ago when she’d woken up in the family condo downtown, Danielle in the room next to her. They’d started to compare their memories when a man had walked into her room and simply ordered them to get ready.
To both of their surprises, they’d complied. Her closet was filled with outfits she’d never have worn, but eagerly put on now.
When they emerged from her room, the man and approved, taken several photos of them, which just like now they had posed for, and then they’d headed out for the day.
Shopping, dining, salons, more shopping, it was a whirlwind of everything she’d hated and fought against… but form some reason she couldn’t keep a smile off her face the entire time.
Yesterday and today had been carbon copies of that first day and now they both had more clothes, shoes, accessories, and bobbles than any woman could use in a lifetime.
None of that was the worst part though, the worst part, and Danielle had confirmed it as well, was that there was a empty pit in the bottom of her stomach that wanted more.
Jason posted the latest photo of Linda and Danielle to Linda’s social media and added in a caption, “God, I can’t beleive how good of deal I got on this bag!”
Then he switched over to Danielle’s and responded to the post, “I know right? Like, I can’t wait to go back tomorrow!”
He scrolled through the timelines for each of them and reacted to a few reposts and other responses and they headed back to the car. There were quite a few angry ones from her former protesters calling them traitors and capitalist scum. Those he made sure to reply to with snarky comments that set them off even more.
He was assigned to them for the rest of the week, then they’d be set lose on their own. The team back at HQ would monitor their socials and make sure they maintained their programming.
This assignment was a cakewalk really, just babysitting a couple of new socialites, he almost felt bad taking the money… almost.
He opened the door for the two of them and they got in, then he tossed their purchases in the trunk and drove them off to their next appointment at a spa. Later tonight it was dinner at a fashionable steakhouse and then off to an opera.
He was looking forward to Friday and Saturday, both days they were scheduled to go clubbing and that would be a fun experience for the two of them. They were programmed to pick up at least one guy each night and that meant the cameras he’d setup in their room would get a good show, and provide some good blackmail material just in case the clients ever decided to stop paying the “maintenance” fee.
He didn’t expect that though, they were rich with a capital RICH, so it seemed unnecessary, but the organization was thorough though and so he followed protocol to the letter.
He smiled as he looked in his review mirror and watched the two women making out in the back seat, that wasn’t part of the programming but a holdover from their previous lives. He wondered if that would get them in trouble eventually in their new lives, but it wasn’t really his concern so he drove off and let them be.
