“Come on, can’t you hurry up?” Tom asked in a demanding tone.

Jerry rolled his eyes and sighed, “Well if you didn’t completely wiper her mind and make her brainless doll it might go quicker.” her replied annoyedly.

“Hey, don’t blame me, it’s what the client wanted!” Tom retorted and Jerry shook his head.

“Maybe… by you could have left a little bit of brainpower in her so she could have helped a little and then wiped the rest of her mind afterwards.”

“Ah… yeah… well I didn’t. So how much longer… the client is on the way…”

“Makeup is pretty much done, but the rollers need another fifteen minutes… then a few to brush it out.” Jerry replied.

Tom scrunched his forehead as he looked at his phone, “Yeah… yeah that should be ok. I can make it work. Alright, get her in the bedroom as soon as you get done and I’ll make some small talk.”

Tom then turned and walked out of the bathroom and down stairs to the main floor. Jerry just huffed and let him go, it wasn’t worth replying, and Tom was just nervous because it was his first time.

On the other hand it wasn’t Jerry’s first rodeo. Every since the tech to rewrite a mind had been invented, the governments of the world had controlled it tightly, but eventually, it had started to show up on the black market and now it was common enough that guys like Tom had access to it.

Of course, rewriting a mind didn’t mean you could simply inject any skill you wanted to, and since many of these jobs involved dirty old men wanting little more than blow up dolls, Jerry’s skills as a makeup artist were in high demand. Or at least guys like Jerry that had the skills and the moral flexibility needed for the job.

He didn’t care where he got her from, or where she was going, he was getting paid very well to make her presentable to the client for their first meeting… and the payoff. After that, he doubted Tom cared, and he certainly didn’t.

He finished painting her lips and then checked the rollers once more, just as he completed the check he heard the front door downstairs open and close, then two muffled voices start to talk, then walked further into the home.

“Hope you’re ready hun… I doubt my work is going to survive very long.” Jerry said as he started to remove the curlers from her hair, but there was no reaction from her.

It took him another ten minutes to get her hair into a golden halo around her head, and then take her into the bedroom, seating her on the edge of the bed and making his way quietly downstairs and out of the front door.

When he was seated in his car, he pulled out his phone and typed out a quick message to Jerry:

"All done, she's setup and ready."

He waited a few minutes until the reply came in, a simple thumbs up reaction, and then he started his car and drove away. He’d of course already received his payment, he didn’t work on contingency, he got paid weather the client paid or not, though he’d never had a complain yet and he doubted there would be any issues this time either.

He was about half way home when a new message came in, he pulled over when it was connivent to do so and quickly read it. A previous client needed his skills ASAP, so he set his navigation to the location and drove off.

He was confident that at this rate, in another six months he’d be able to retire, or not. He had an ex that he might get rewritten, he was sure he could get someone like Tom to do the job at a discount or in trade.

Jerry chuckled and smiled as he drove down the highway to his next job and thinking of what the future might bring.
