“AAAAAAAAA!!!!!!” the patient screamed as conciousness returned to her.
“God damn it! She’s waking up! Get her sedated again!” The doctor shouted as she physically restrained the patient, her heads up display flashing warnings all over it.
“I’m sorry doctor! Right away!” the nurse replied quickly moving over to the side and increasing the sedative flowing into the patient’s vein.
The patient struggled for a moment longer, then slowly, settled down and the doctor watched the patient’s eyes close once more and the robotic arms return to their work.
“Whew, that was close.” the doctor said to the now quiet room.
“Yes, I’m sorry doctor, there was an adeline spike in the patient and it temporarily overcame the sedative.” the nurse replied.
The doctor watched her heads up display return to green before flipping through several more status screens.
“Well, looks like no harm no foul. And with 80% of the brian activity already rewired it’s unlikely the patient will remember anything. It’s a good thing the new regulations require a complete mental wipe with only a minimal personalty installed afterwards. A drone can’t really look back at a memory and feel things about it… just obey the orders that its given.”
“Yes, things have been much better since the new regs took effect. There hasn’t been a single breakdown in one of the conversions since all of the gen 1 units were reprogrammed!” the nurse replied.
The doctor nodded and then got back to work, only pausing to make a mental note to check on her own drone order when she had a moment.
After all, the nurse had social credit score more than low enough to be picked up for conversion, it was just a matter of how much of a backlog the government had to get through before her.
